Cartman In The Morning

My name is Cartman. It feels like it was yesterday, but the fact of the matter I cracked a mic for the first time in Northern Michigan in 2004. Knowing that teenagers are running around who weren't even born when I began my career here makes me feel old. The graying hair, and random back pain from sleeping wrong is another good indication of getting old.

I love my wife. I love my dogs. I love my job. Music is life. I love to crank up my radio and jam to music no matter the mood. That's the beautiful part about music... there is always a song that fits what you are feeling. To those listening to Rock 105 and 95-5 for the first time, I welcome you. For those of you who have been loyal to the station all these years, and to my show, I say thank you. The best is yet to come. Now turn up that radio and let's have some fun!

Roxanne Steele

Roxanne….. you don’t have to turn on the red light! Yes, everyone sings that song to her and she loves it! Classic song for a classic girl!

Roxanne got her start in radio in her hometown, Los Angeles, at her high school station where she quickly realized she loved the power of the microphone! After graduating, she traveled and worked all over before landing her dream destination at the time, Chicago!

She rocked the Windy City for over a decade and met her husband, at a bar, who was in town from Detroit! She convinced him to move to Chicago, where they later married. After the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in 2010 her husband had enough so they moved to Detroit to raise their daughters and be closer to family. Roxanne quickly landed a job in the Motor City working various formats. Most recently with Nash FM 93.1 and WYCD where she was nominated for an ACM Award in 2018 for Major Market Personality!

We are fortunate that Roxanne now brings her smooth sound and sass Up North on Rock 105 / 95.5

Her passion for music and people is infectious. Listening to Roxanne is like hanging out with a friend which is exactly how she views the radio audience. She loves concerts, whiskey, and a good bottle of wine! She is an animal lover too, who just rescued her first puppy in 2018.

Social on and off the air. Through it all, this dynamic host never loses sight of the important role she plays through her voice on the radio and on her social media platforms. “Music and entertaining others is a part of who I am deep inside. I absolutely love what I do!”

Dave Doran

Friends, this is a tale of two cities. Traverse City and Detroit. I started my crazy (and believe me it's been CRAZY) radio career right here in Traverse City way back in the 20th century. Since then, the rock n' roll that has infected my soul has taken me places you can't even imagine!

I've seen a million faces & I've rocked'em all! (yeah, I just quoted Bon Jovi, so what?) But my favorite place to be is right here in Northern Michigan. The Cherry Festival, The Venetian Festival, Cedar Fest. The U & I, The Doublewide, Union Street. The breweries, the restaurants, the lakes, the dunes, South Manitou. Leland, Suttons Bay, Northport, Charlevoix, Gaylord, Elk Rapids, Kalkaska, the list is endless.

But most of all, it's YOU the people that make this town great. It's YOU who make this town ROCK! I'm thrilled to be back on the radio here in Northern Michigan at ROCK 105.5 and 95.5. After spending time at WRIF/WCSX Detroit, WIOT Toledo, and stations in Saginaw, Flint, Kalamazoo and Battle Creek...It feels good to be back home. My brothers and sisters in rock... I'm here to chew bubble gum & melt your face with rock n' roll...and I'm all outta bubble gum. See you at the Doublewide!

THE BOX - 8:00p-11:00p Saturday nights with Smitty!

Smitty's back again and again... THE BOX is a weekend specialty show where Smitty will play deep cuts, and past features from his old afternoon show like Rock Radar, some 420 Stoner Rock, heavier cuts like The Asylum and there'll be new stuff he's always wanted to try too!

We even saved his old BIO:

Since I am a fairly mediocre human, I will do my best to make this Bio as exciting as possible. Here goes...

Born in northern MI (Rapid City-Kalkaska schools), re-located downstate (Walled Lake) during high school years. Decided to join the US Army as a paratrooper at 20. I tend to not make a big deal about my service. I was out before 9-11, didn't see combat, and really just spent 3 years drinking beer and jumping out of planes...EXCITING!

After the Army, re-located back to northern MI, did mostly bartending jobs, drove a taxi cab, fertilized lawns, then at age 30, had a mini-nervous breakdown and decided I wanted to finally put the GI Bill to use.

I studied at Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts in Southfield (RTV-1-06 class represent!) I joined Black Diamond Broadcasting (Formerly Northern Star Broadcasting) Super Bowl weekend 2007, which makes it TWELVE YEARS HERE. Exciting!

I held the afternoon slot on ROCK 105.1 / 95.5 from late 2008 to spring 2019, and have loved every single minute of it, building a solid relationship with listeners, using genuine humor, love of the music I play, and love of the region.

I like to throw out random self-deprecating humor and say things like...'I have no idea why people like listening to me" ...but I think the reason people like listening to me, is that I'm genuine...not doing any kind of character. I think people like that. See? Exciting!

I was born and raised in Alpena, moved to TC for 20 years and landed in Cheboygan a few years back to work for Rock 105. Big surprise I am a HUGE fan of racing and music. I've been to 39 Cup races all around the country, attended over 250 concerts including all types of music, a ton of bands that spin on Rock 105 including Metallica, Godsmack, Shinedown, 3 Doors Down, Kid Rock, Seether and many, many more. I'm also a self proclaimed Ambassador to NASCAR for Northern Michigan for the last 13 years and continue to report on the sport from a Fan's perspective for Rock 105 every Monday and Friday with the Fast Lane

Mike Grisdale

News / Sports / Marketing

A longtime radio veteran in Northern Michigan, Mike is also very active in his community. His busy schedule includes officiating basketball, serving several roles in his church (Cheboygan Catholic Community) and volunteering.

Besides handling news and sports duties on most Black Diamond Broadcasting stations, he also is an integrated marketing consultant for the company and has been the Voice of Cheboygan Chiefs football for over 35 years! Mike also serves as the Director of Marketing and the Foundation Director for Mackinac Straits Health System.

He is the proud father of three boys, Bryan, Matt and Adam. When he and his wife Sandy have free time, they enjoy spending it with their dog (Drake), traveling, concerts and sampling local restaurants.

"I have seen plenty of changes in radio over the years," said Grisdale. "But like most businesses, one thing doesn't change.... the importance of strong relationships. I have been fortunate to develop many wonderful relationships with staff, clients and most importantly, the audience."
